Former 7th District Representative and current Weldon Town Commissioner Dock Brown expressed great satisfaction with the hard work and dedication of Representative Bryant, as he encouraged her to seek re-election to the seat which was also previously held by his good friend, John Hall. “Look at what Rep. Bryant did – introducing a bill to protect our children from unnecessary shackling in court, helping us get Medicaid relief, drop-out and gang prevention funding, expanding minority male mentoring at our community colleges and more. She has held town meetings throughout the district and kept us the most informed we’ve ever been. We have to keep her as our representative,” Brown emphasized. He also expressed his delight at having the Weldon Post Office named after him and thanked the crowd for recognizing his lifetime work and that historic honor, as they gave him a moving standing ovation with thunderous applause. Mayor Drewery Beale, Weldon Commissioner Julia Meacham, County Commissioner Marcelle Smith, Rocky Mount City Council Members Lamont Wiggins and Lois Watkins and various school board members were also present.
Speaker Pro Tempore William Wainwright, D- Craven rallied the crowd. “Rep. Bryant defies the old adage that ‘freshman should be seen and not heard’. She said that you all sent her to Raleigh to be seen and heard and that’s what she has done on your behalf. We have listened to her and she has our confidence and support. We need her and you need her in Raleigh working for you.”
Representative Bryant left with a renewed commitment to continue to serve Halifax and Nash county residents as she uses her government experience and training as a lawyer to represent her constituents in Raleigh. According to Rep. Bryant – “ No one will work harder for you to achieve the goals we share for quality education and housing, safe communities, health care and jobs, fairness, justice and public safety.” Evelyn Dawson, Halifax County Campaign Coordinator for Bryant was the mistress of ceremonies. Dawson encouraged supporters to register voters by the April 11th deadline and get out the vote in the Democratic Primary with early voting and registration from April 17 to May 3 and the final Election Day on May 6.
