About Angela Bryant
Community Leadership Roots

Angela has prepared herself for a community leadership role since her childhood.
- At 11, youngest and only girl in first group of 4 students to integrate the public schools in Rocky Mount at Edwards Junior High in Fall 1963 with Gerald Williams, William Ward, Charles Lee and Ronald Reid; in small group of African American Students at UNC-Chapel Hill in 1969 and UNC-CH Law School in 1973;
- In conjunction with others, developed a year long community leaders project to support coordination, cooperation and relationship building among community leaders, flood victims and recovery agencies in during the recovery period of Hurricane Floyd;
- Rocky Mount Housing Authority, former Board Member;
- Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, former Vice-Chair for Education;
- Wesleyan College Board of Visitors, Former Member;
- UNC-CH Board of Trustees, Former Member;
- UNC Board of Governors, Former Member – Nominated by Rep. Thomas Hardaway of Halifax;
- Lawyer of the Year 1983 – NC Association of Black Lawyers – recognized for exemplary and outstanding service in the cause of justice for co-founding the NCABL and Land Loss Prevention Project at NCCU School of Law;
- Member, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, NAACP, Common Ground, Rocky Mount Kiwanis Club
Member, NC State Advisory Committee to the US Commission on Civil Rights;
- 2000 Mary G. Little, Aging Program Accomplishment Award for Outstanding Service to Elders in Region L;
- 2002 – Bridging the Gap & Eastern Carolina Practitioner's Network- Spirit of Collaboration Award to VISIONS Inc. for outstanding and continued support of the Fatherhood Initiative;
- October 2003 – Elected to the Rocky Mount City Council representing Ward 4;
- 2004 – received the Community Leadership Award saluting outstanding leadership to the people of the state from The North Carolina Legislative Black Caucus Foundation;
- 2006 – Distinguished Alumni Award – UNC Chapel Hill in the field of Community Service for outstanding contributions to humanity in striving to build a society that overcomes racism, sexism and ageism and seeks to achieve social justice for all.
