Welcome

From Representative Angela Bryant,

North Carolina holds its 2010 Primary Election today, May 4th.  We must all remember the important responsibilities that come with being a citizen in our great nation and state.  Our right to vote for the candidate of our choice has not been preserved without great sacrifice over these many years. We should never forget this truth or lose our appreciation for it.

Although the pages of our newspapers and the blare of our TV's continue to report on some scandal somewhere involving some politician or other, we must remember that these are the few, and only a small fraction of the many Federal, State, and locally elected officials that toil tirelessly each day to make our districts a better place for us all.

Today is an opportunity to show your support and confidence in our system, support for our Party and/or support for the candidates of our choice.  Today is a day when you can show your thanks to the many who have sacrificed to protect your right to choose .... a right that continues to be the envy of our global neighbors.

No matter how busy you are.... take a few moments to vote.

May 4th - North Carolina Primary Day
Take the Time to Choose
Every Vote Will Make a Difference!

My best wishes to all,

Representative Angela Bryant

NC Legislator Gets
Green Award From NCSEA

“supporting policies to make our state competitive nationally in creating green jobs and attracting new investments”

Charlotte Business Journal
By John Downey

Raleigh - The N.C. Sustainable Energy Association recognized two relative newcomers to the NC General Assembly with its Legislator of the Year awards Friday.

On the House side, the association recognized Rep. Angela Bryant, D-Halifax/Nash, who is in her second term. She took over as chairwoman of the House Energy and Energy Efficiency Committee this past session, replacing longtime-environmental champion Rep. Pricey Harrison.

N.C. SEA Executive Director Ivan Urlaub credited her with working to protect state support for sustainable energy efforts despite budget cuts in the recession.

On the Senate side, the association chose a freshman, Sen. Josh Stein, D-Wake. Urlaub credited Stein with leadership on the extension of state renewable energy credits for five more years and increasing funding for state projects with energy service companies that reduce energy waste and conserve water in public buildings.

A Challenging Legislative Session

This was a difficult and challenging legislative long-session for business, education, taxpayers, workers, families and the environment. We were determined not to let our financial challenges stop us from moving this state forward, and I am proud that we listened to you and found ways to improve state laws across the board.  I am also excited to be a part of an open and fair legislative process that emphasizes ethics and a thorough review of the important matters before us.

We focused our state’s fiscal policy on the creation, expansion and protection of jobs in North Carolina. We worked to maximize the impact of the $6 billion in federal stimulus funds to support a green economy, infrastructure, and other needed programs.  We will work collaboratively with our constituents to continue to meet and overcome the fiscal and policy challenges we will face as we move forward in the short session.

This session, I sponsored at least 30 bills that were enacted into law either separately or as a part of other measures.  I served as Chair of the Energy and Energy-Efficiency Committee and Vice-Chair of the UNC Board of Governors Nominating Committee. I also served on the Public Utilities, Judiciary I, Juvenile Justice, Election Law and Campaign Finance Reform, Ways and Means/Broadband Connectivity and Education Committees and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Natural and Economic Resources. In the interim, I will serve on the State Energy Council and the Joint Oversight Committees for Dropout Reform and Improving the Graduation Rate, Poverty Elimination, Economic Recovery and Public Utilities. In those forums, I will keep myself updated on the issues that matter to you and work to develop policies that will ensure the prosperity of our families, businesses and communities.

During this interim, I am also preparing for a re-election primary just six months away and for on-going work in the district and statewide.  I hope I can count on you for a generous contribution and investment in helping to retain dedicated and competent representation in the House. I need your help to raise money for a winning campaign. Your generous donation of $1000, $500 or $250 will help me run an effective campaign to keep responsible, experienced, strong, competent and dedicated representation for our district and the state.  Thank you for the confidence and support you have shown me.  I look forward to working hard for you.

Contribute to Angela Today!

I am asking for your support in order to continue to be one of the leaders you can count on to make a difference in the legislature. Please contribute.
Sincerely,
